Lemon Joy, a well-known band in Lithuania, is a veteran with all its hits, I cannot ignore its roots in synth-pop and gothic music. And a trip back in time to 1998 would help to taste the roots even more deliciously. in May, when Igor, Oleg and Maksim put their guitars aside and started making electronic music for their second studio album, "Super".
For those who don't know, some facts: For those who don't know, some facts:
Lemon Joy is a band so old but still playing that we've forgotten about the dinosaurs, but they haven't gotten lucky yet
Lemon Joy is such an old group that it was part of the "Rock March", at a time when marches in Lithuania looked and sounded completely different.
Lemon Joy - such an old band, when I hear them somewhere, it's like someone played a "Modern Talking" record from an antique shop.

But let's go back to when Lemon Joy was young and raw, and the group's vocalist and lyricist Igor Kof was 23 years old. In the album, instead of youthful maximalism and enthusiastic drive, the sad (sexually sensitive) voice of Igor Kofs is heard. The lyrics reflect anger, frustration, breakup pains, bipolar (I hope I'm not offending anyone) moods, reconciliation and maybe even an allusion to drugs. In short, these are youth songs about love. Of course, not about the perfect Instagram picture, but about the side effects of love. The one we all know very well but are too embarrassed to tell anyone about. Maybe this is the reason why the album sounds so "darker" and EMOTIONAL. And the name "Super" here acquires a spice of irony. In some places, the music waves to post-punk guitars, in other waves, the rhythm takes you to a good old trance party (with those out-of-fashion and now funny-sounding electric drum effect rises before the add-on or drop.) Although e.g. the track "Balta Meilė", in my opinion, would be revived in the now returning trance/techno scene. Everything comes full circle, this is current music from the late 90s.
In short. The tracks from the album, "Karolis" and "Balta Meilė" (especially the version with the group Dinamika primadona Irma) once had a place of honor in my (teenage) cassettes, but it was so long ago that I think it was not true. But a month or so ago, I happened to hear the track "Šalia". I was hooked by the unusual alternative sound, which was followed by listening to the entire album on Spotify and pakartot.lt and a retrospective of the album's life.
Lemon's Joy's second studio album, "Super" (could technically be counted as Lemon Joy's first album, just because of the changed band name and sound that accompanies the band to this day)
in 1998 the album was released on cassette and compact by Bomba Records.
in 2018 the album has been remastered and returned to the CD medium.
in 2023 the album first hit vinyl and landed in my hands.
Really good quality, good sounding black vinyl that makes my black heart happy, both with relevance and nostalgic memories.
How often do dinosaurs perform now? It's really hard to say, but (on the occasion of I. Kof's birthday) we will probably have a concert in August at the "Summer Terrace". If Lemon Joy plays songs from this album I will come and hear them live because that would be SUPER!
