A mashup that nobody asked for or an internet hit? NO DJS | Sik Sik Sik âš¡Tarzan Boy

Lithuanian mashup god - Vikor Diawara

WHAT IS THIS MASHUP?

All kinds of remixes, edits, reworks, bootlegs and, of course, mashups - are slang invented by DJs and music producers, and at the same time, they are various ways to transfer music pieces to dance floors, or otherwise "enhance" them, or maybe even transfer to other genres and, as if using a time machine, return the popularity and relevance of long-forgotten works.

Mashup, it's music surgery. It is a combination of two (or more) already created audio tracks into one, which resembles a joint work of two groups. However, mashups are operated by music producers, DJs, or even music laypeople who are usually not directly related to the bands whose tracks they put together. As a result, sometimes mashups sound so incredible that it even explodes the brain, hearing radically different groups in one musical formation. The brain explodes even more when you hear how things that seemed to be incompatible, in fact, so unexpectedly or even comically, DO. Mashups are a separate art form, the final definition of which is still difficult to define.

12 years before the EU directive, ACTA tried to ban such and so on. works, (trying to protect intellectual property authors). We ended up saving more than 50% of Youtube content thanks to Anonymous hackers. At least that's how I remember these strange attempts to tighten intellectual property laws. Still, this freedom to playfully combine existing pieces, and to surprise dancers by hearing familiar pieces but presenting them in a completely different context, is fair, honest, and fun. Or not? - I leave it up to you to decide." Write what you think about it - in the comments.

To be honest, there are moments when mashups annoy me, they seem artificial and I can't listen to them, I want to run away from the party as soon as possible. But since I'm a DJ, sometimes a mashup (or at least the idea of it) is born unexpectedly for me too, just mixing from one track to another. Sometimes it seems to me that this is a very natural process . If you understand what I mean.

DJ STYLE COMPETITION - "BLENDER"

DJ style competition "Blenderis", KlaipÄ—da

In this topic, I suddenly remembered one of the first events I organized in Klaipėda, in 2015, at the club Roxy - "Blenderis". It was a DJ mashup competition, in which DJ couples of different music styles (hip-hop, reggae, beats) participated, who were given the task of mashup Lithuanian retro music into their representative style. The party was incredibly fun. In the crowd, music lovers were enjoying the music, older clubgoers were enjoying the retro clips, and in the background, you could see many people who rarely visit clubs - pet owners. Well, because we gave all the collected money to the animal shelter "Linksmosios Pėdutės". This apparently became my business card as an organizer. Because it's a good idea, a nice mission, and I had to work hard to find that bunch of event sponsors (from information to dog food). If you are interested, the performance of the winners (Alko & Swix) (and others: E-Roott, Audrius Kaštonas, Makdett, Deep Shoq) with SEL "kiemas" and even the Lithuanian polka is still in this archive:

"Blender" was a unique idea, which unfortunately could not be fulfilled for the third time. All that perfectionism that grows over time and the desire to raise the bar higher. But maybe one day "Blender" will return and rise like a Phoenix from the ashes!

LITHUANIAN GOD OF MASHAPS

DJ Mamania and No DJS (Viktor Diawara's solo project) have been creating mashups in Lithuania for a long time. Recently, social Lukas Mi is also very active in the networks. I still play his Nelly Furtado and Ledi Ais version at cocktail parties.

Nevertheless, in all these years, Viktor and his solo project NO DJS created the most mashups, made a video for them, musically recreated the documentary of Lithuanian hip-hop and updated his own group SKAMP's program using the mashup idea.

His countless amount of mashups can be purchased at contrebee: https://contribee.com/nodjsmashup , and you can listen to mashups live at the home ground - ELFA, on April 12 https://fb.me/e/3F5yhBaXC .

THE MASHAP THAT NOBODY ASKED FOR

Viktor and I met on purpose on the weekend, (some to play behind the DJ console (me), some to friends at the homestead). Maybe without expanding, Viktor's post will explain everything more.

Taran and Tarzan Boy

There are such and such mashups and there are "which nobody asked for" (as in no one, in this case I asked). Perhaps one of them is Viktor Diawara's latest mashup Tarzan Boy with Sik Sik Sik Tarzan from Lithuania. This time it's a reverse version, 80's schlager combined with today's Lithuanian folklore. You can't deny it, "licked licked and licked" or "sik sik sik" became such phrases. Be that as it may, we thought of filming an Easter video greeting. A powerful dose of vitamin D, which is what everyone longs for after a long, long winter. The sun, the grill, the porridge, the puppy, the girls and the basketball, in a wonderful homestead somewhere in Miami (in Marijampole and thank you, Paulius <3) . Who could not love this whole Easter mashup?
